PM River Fishing Report- October 17th

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

The rain came, the river is up, the fish arrived and even better, they started bitting like crazy.  This has been the best week of fishing this fall.

The salmon are still in good numbers through out the spawning areas, with a big push of steelhead showing up a few days ago.  The icing on the cake is that the trout have been chowing the eggs, I cannot count how many really nice trout I’ve released the past few days.

We’ve got openings this weekend and into next week if anyone wants to jump in on some awesome fishing.

PM River Fishing Report- October 11th

The Pere Marquette River is seeing a nice late push of salmon this season with steelhead numbers also increasing each day.  The water remains very low and clear, a situation that always makes the fish spooky and a tougher challenge.

Traditional fly lines versus chuck-and-duck are top choices in my boat.  With slow and low water weights hang continually as your trying to bounce bottom with chuck-and-duck style rigs.

Peach/pink eggs have works best the past few days.

A great week for us on the Pere Marquette, kids in the boats and they all caught fish.  Charlie, Anthony and Joe all caught both their first salmon and their first fish on a fly.  Joe had to endure a punishing morning of wind, rain and even some snow before a salmon finally made its way to the net.

Great job guys!

Pere Marquette Fishing Report- October 3rd

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

While water levels are still low and clear, the salmon fishing on the PM has done nothing but improve.  The start of archery deer season always helps to reduces fishing pressure .  So while I wouldn’t say that there are a ton of fish in the river, with less people, the fishing is good.

More good news, steelhead are showing up in better numbers each day.

My best fly for salmon has been anything big and black.
