Beaver Island, The First Week

Saturday, May 28th, 2016

The weather and fishing for the first week back to Beaver Island has been ok to good. We’ve had some sun that was accompanied by good fishing but for the most part we’ve had clouds, making visibility really tough.

The water is up about another foot from last year, so there’s flooded vegetation above your wader belt, It should make for another interesting season. We’ve spotted some barrel sized carp this year, cannot wait for someone to land one.

The pictures below are the three guides heading to the island on the Emerald Isle, then Austin’s first carp of the year, then my first and then the first customer caught carp of the season.

Fly Fishing the Inland Oceans by Jerry Darkes

Friday, December 13th, 2013

Our friend Jerry Darkes recently published his first book, Fly Fishing the Inland Oceans – an angler’s guide to finding and catching fish in the Great Lakes.

While I did take a pleasurable hour thumbing threw Jerry’s book I haven’t had a chance to read it yet but from what I’ve seen I’m really looking forward to it.

I’m happy to say that Steve, Austin and I are all mentioned in the book and we’re honored to be part of such a quality work. The book is chockfull of photos and information stretching from Duluth to Oswego.

If your interested in finding out where and how to fly fish the Great Lakes, pick up a copy of Jerry’s book. Link to where you can purchase Fly Fishing the Inland Oceans.
