Beaver Island Fishing Report- June 7th

Friday, June 7th, 2013

As I mentioned yesterday, the weather has been far from ideal on the islands so far this summer. But, when the sun has shone and the water turns just a little warmer in the shallows the fishing has been very good. As soon as we get a heat wave the fishing is going to be off-the-charts great.

The main lake water temp around us is about 50 with the shallows hitting about 60 on our warmest days. If I could only have one fly tomorrow it would be something yellow.

The first two pictures are of Trevor, the son of Captain Dan of Fin Chaser Sportfishing in Ocean City, Maryland. Trevor wanted to take a break from all the big cool fish they catch at home and head to Beaver Island to chase carp and we did better than chase we even caught a few. Trevor taught himself to fly cast and even without having a double-haul was able to make some pretty good casts. When he masters the double-haul the fish better watch out.

River of Change

Friday, February 1st, 2013

In less than a week the PM River has gone from low clear and locked solid in the depths of winter (see last weeks report) to out-of-the-banks after a few days of warm weather and heavy rains and now we are back to more cold and winter.  The Muskegon to our south is forming ice dams that are not allowing water to pass over the spillways at the dam.  This has flooded many homes in the area.

Steve and I are heading to Cincinnati this weekend and we hope to see you there.

Pere Marquette River Fishing Report- January 13th

Monday, January 14th, 2013

Steve sends the following:  With a mild winter the weather and steelhead fishing have remained good.  The PM River is up, with good color and temps are in the low to mid thirties.

The whole river system has good steelhead numbers and pressure from other anglers has been low.  Eggs, stones and hex have been my top choices.

Take advantage of this mild weather before winter blasts in.

Pere Marquette Fishing Report- Nov 16th

Saturday, November 17th, 2012

Steelhead fishing on the PM remains very consistent.  Eggs are still hot but hex nymphs have been putting more fish in the net each day.  We also had a day where streamers out produced eggs.

Water temps are below 40 and the whole river is low and clear, again.
