Pere Marquette River Fishing Report- March 15th

In the course of a week the PM River has gone from the upper 30’s, with the first spawners starting to scrape gravel, back down to the low thirties. The fishing followed the water temps, going from good fishing to lock-jaw.

There are two points of good new. First, steelhead and trout became pretty active as the water started to warm again with this new warmer weather system. Second is that we scouted the lower river several days ago as the river was on the rise and there is a big load of silver heading upstream.

Water levels are high but falling quickly, with the upper half having almost perfect color. Light colored eggs have been my ticket. I dip an egg selection over the side of the boat and whatever ones I can see the deepest have been producing the most fish — pretty simple.
