Pere Marquette fishing report -September 24th

There are great numbers of salmon everywhere in the river right now. We fished the middle and upper river last week and ducked down into the lower river on Saturday in an attempt to avoid the crowds and it worked. There are tons of fish on gravel and in the holes in the middle and upper river with plenty of fresh fish still in the lower river. And very low traffic. We pitched Thundersticks on Saturday and hooked 11 fresh fish. My boat finally hooked a small fish and actually managed to get him to the boat. Salmon season is more about the fight than the grip and grin. These fish are big and hot.

Fish in the middle and upper river have been good biters so far this year with best flies being Kevin’s Salmon Candy and big nuke eggs in orange with white veil, orange with chartreuse veil, and pink with white veil.

Plenty of egg eating brown trout around. We lucked into quite a few while salmon fishing on Thursday with each boat of a three boat party landing a good one. Check out our Facebook page for a pic of Rob’s nice brown. Not sure Kevin and Steve took pictures of their nice browns. We’ll see.

Salmon season is in full swing and should continue at this pace for at least the next two weeks or so. We STILL have October 5-7 open. We’ve had lots of calls but no deposits yet. Drop us a line if you’re interested.
