This is Steve’s Fly Master’s hat from this past salmon season. Pere Marquette king salmon are tough like any king salmon and that means a lot of guys, including us, break flies off on these fish quite a bit. Unfortunately, on the Pere Marquette, as on a lot of other salmon rivers, many kings are snagged, either purposefully or not. So sometimes when you catch a salmon on the PM it’s wearing some jewelry in some strange places.
Every fly Steve found in a salmon this fall he dutifully removed and stuck in his hat for safe keeping. Because Steve is quite busy during salmon season, there’s a lot of flies in his hat.
