Big Lake Currents

I arrived on Beaver Island yesterday.  Incredible place.  Fished today in the pouring rain.  Caught what I thought was a quality smallmouth but Kevin and Steve laughed at me.  One thing I thought was cool were the currents in the lake.  Changes in atmospheric pressure over the length of the lake can cause fairly dramatic currents resulting in water “piling up” in one area.  These are called seiches and can be quite large with water level changes of 16 feet.  Here’s a picture of some current running over a shoal.  Much more Beaver Island goodness this week.
