Matt Straw and his friend Mary Savage hit the Pere Marquette with me last week. The weather, steelhead and bacon cheeseburgers combined for a great day.
At one point, late in the day, Mary said that she saw a steelhead roll just downstream, I gave the boat a push to better her position and then we joked that she could catch “her” fish now. On the first drift her float went down quick and she was into a long fight, especially for a winter fish. Mary ended up with the best fish of the day, a bright 31 1/2″ pre-spawn female.
