Music Fest was this past weekend and Steve sends the following report (with a little TFM spotting included). If you’re into music and great carp and smallmouth fishing, book your Beaver Island trip for Music Fest weekend next year. You won’t be sorry.
All the bands were great, but my favorites were The Northern Skies, Hymn for Her and Paul Lamb and the Detroit Breakdown.
The Northern Skies are a Michigan based group. The lead singer Eric Engblade is, in fact, a Ludington native. Their sound has been labeled “folk rock with teeth.” Great songs about Michigan. They have a real high energy that got the crowd moving and dancing.
Hymn for Her are from the Pittsburg area and this duo are a crazy good combination of a 3 string broom handle/cigar box bass and a kick drum harmonica guitar going all at once and it’s amazing the sounds they get, eerie tones and hard hitting vocals. They are great to watch and I’m looking forward to seeing them again.
Paul Lamb and the Detriot Breakdown are straight up rock and roll. Paul actually lives on Beaver Island in the summers. These guys are just plain in your face rock with Joey on vocals, Layla and her three foot dreadlocks on drums. They just returned from an 18 country tour of Europe.
