Not the best fly fishing footage in the world, but a very pretty movie from a very pretty place.

Pere Marquette fishing report -Nov 20th
Fishing has been steady to good over the past week or so here on the Pere Marquette. Water is back to normal levels and quite clear which means the steelhead are holding where they are supposed to hold. While we haven’t had much luck swinging streamers recently, reports from other folks are that fish are responding to swung streamers fairly well. Egg patterns are still fishing best for us, including peach glo bugs, clown eggs, and 8mm trout beads. Nymphs have been fishing very poorly for us so far. I’ve been fishing a hex nymph and egg indicator rig almost exclusively when not swinging streamers and have yet to catch a fish on the hex nymph.

News Update Friday
- Cool article about an isolated (relic?) population of native lake trout in Elk Lake.
- Maybe they should call it Lake Erie Stocked Steelhead Expo? OH SNAP! There are four other Great Lakes with dramatically different steelhead fisheries.
- Michigan’s wine industry has grown 500% since 1973.

How much is every wild steelhead worth?
The dollar value of Florida bonefish to the sport fishing industry has been discussed before, but it recently came back up again on the Natural Resources Defense Council’s blog.
I wonder what kind of dollar value each wild steelhead in the Pere Marquette has? I wonder if that value for the local economy is more important than their value as food?

Salmon contest
November 15th was the deadline for the Muskie Country DVD giveaway contest. We’d like to thank everyone who entered a story. These are a couple of my favorite lines from the second and third place stories from Cory and Nick. Cory is getting a copy of the Night of the Hex DVD for second place.
“My fly is about to drift right in front of the salmon, the salmon is under the porcupine and my dog is barking from the shore at the porcupine.”
“I don’t know how I’m going to tie a porcupine fly.”
Chris Engle, outdoor writer for the Gaylord Herald Times, gets the DVD with his story “Seamus the Salmon.”
