Pere Marquette fishing report- July 9th

It was hot last week and the fishing was just OK.  Over night lows barely dipped to 70. Water temps were right around 68 degrees in the upper river on Tuesday and the water was clear.  Mike was up from Indiana and we had fairly consistent action on hoppers for 10-12″ fish in the morning, but by 11am the fishing slowed down dramatically.  Some significant rain arrived on Wednesday and by Thursday the river had picked up a decent stain that made for better streamer fishing.  Fishing was slow in the afternoon on Thursday with a couple small browns on nymphs, hoppers and small white streamers.  Around 7pm a quality fish erupted on Mike’s big yellow Zoo Cougar.  If we weren’t so far up the river I would have said it was a pike.  We moused for about an hour after dark and Mike hooked another solid fish right at the take out on a mouse pattern.  Another explosive take.  Yours truly botched the net job.  I need a bigger net.  Though as Kevin says, that’s a good problem to have.

Thanks for fishing hard Mike and wearing a very nice t-shirt..
