Carp departures

Kevin leaves for Beaver Island and a summer of carp fishing on Tuesday.  Steve heads up on Friday.  Exciting times.  The report from Whiskey Point on Beaver Island a couple days ago is that surface temps were already over 70, the fish were thick in six inches to two feet of water and this season promises to be absolutely incredible if the temperatures stay warm.

And yeah, Kevin got a new pair of wading boots.  Thank the lord.

Open Water Lake Michigan

Indigo guides Kevin and Steve hit the big lake yesterday in search of open water salmon, steelhead and browns. Full story to come next week. Here are some of the flies Steve tied for the mission. Apparently they should be very flashy, kinda like how Steve dresses.

Pere Marquette reading material

Indigo Guide Mark Knee says that the bugs are popping on the Pere Marquette. Sulfurs, blue quills, black quills, stoneflies, caddis, BWOs, and drakes are all on the menu. Alevin and fry are still producing as well. But instead of sending pictures of chunky butter slabs slurping down parachutes, he sends these pictures of his sons Carter and Adam. Good taste in reading material and, speaking as a southern Indianan, the ditch pickle is awesome.

Ludington

It seems to be video week here on Third Coast which is fine with me and probably fine with you too.  We posted one of the Pure Michigan TV spots a couple weeks ago that featured fishing.  It was very good. Well it turns out Pure Michigan made a bunch of regional spots as well, including one that features Ludington.  Ludington is situated at the mouth of the Pere Marquette River on Lake Michigan and is the biggest town in our area.  There’s a great beach, a great brewpub and great fly fishing.  OK Tim Allen, take it away.
